This chapter explores the use of supplements to mitigate enteric methane emission in dairy cattle. It begins by highlighting two dietary approaches that can decrease enteric CH4 emission, the first being the improvement of forage quality and the second being the inclusion of concentrate feeds in the diet. The use of of dietary lipids and lipid supplements is also discussed, followed by a review of the use of alternative electron sinks, plant-based bioactive compounds and chemical inhibitors. A section on the growing interest of macroalgae use in ruminants is also provided. The chapter also discusses the additive effect of feed supplements as well as the economics of methane mitigation.
